Awards for Vernon Park!

The Tookany/Tacony Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF) held a special event at the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center on Thursday, May 31. A number of awards were given, including four people from Germantown involved in Friends of Vernon Park and other organizations.

Ashley Schmid, Director of Education and Outreach TTF, gives Friend of the TTF Watershed Award to Fred Lewis, Senior Environment Corps and Friend of Vernon Park. Germantown Friends School 5th Grade Environmental Action Club students in the foreground.

Gerald Kaufman, President of Board of TTF, Howard Neukrug, Philadelphia Water Department Commissioner, give Rev. Williams, Chew and Belfield Neighbors Club, Friend of the TTF Watershed Award, with Julie Slavet, Executive Director TTF.

Germantown Friends School 5th Grade Environmental Action Club students were given the TTF Watershed Youth Champions Award.

Gardening in the Park

★ Calling all early bird gardeners. On Wednesday, June 6 from 8:00 – 9:00 am we plan to put plants in the places in the rain garden where the original plants did not survive. Also one or two plants into the beds along Germantown Avenue. Please bring your own tools if you have favorites and join in the planting. NOTE: If it is pouring with rain the rain date for planting is Friday, June 8 from 8:00 – 9:00 am.

★ Join us for a clean up, some drain unclogging, path edge clearing and weeding! Wednesday, June 13 from 10:00 am – noon. Our Parks & Recreation representative will be meeting up with volunteers who are going to be working all day so there will be lots of hands to get all the work done!
